I. Chinese and English Language Programmes
Communication is key to social integration. Learning Chinese and English equips ethnic minorities in Hong Kong with the necessary tools for integration, education, career advancement, and social participation. Language proficiency significantly impacts the social upward mobility of ethnic minorities; hence, we will provide Chinese and English Language Programmes for ethnic minority adults.
II. Orientation and Familiarisation Programmes
Our Orientation and Familiarisation Programmes aim to help ethnic minorities acclimate to their new environment. These programmes will include guided tours of local communities, information sessions on cultural norms and practices, and workshops on navigating public services. By fostering a better understanding of the community, we aim to enhance the integration process for the new arrivals.
III. Integration Programmes
We provide ethnic minorities with a comprehensive range of integration programmes and services, focusing on assisting them in integrating into the Hong Kong community. These programmes will include community events, cultural exchange activities, and support networks to promote social cohesion.
IV. Dedicated Programmes for Ethnic Minority Youths
We will liaise with District Offices, District Youth Committees, District Councils, ethnic minority organisations, and local schools to organise district youth programmes and competitions. These initiatives aim to strengthen the self-esteem of ethnic minority youths, broaden their horizons, and enhance mutual communication with Chinese and other youths to achieve social integration and racial harmony.
V. After-school Tutorial Classes
Ethnic minority students often face difficulties in their studies or adjusting to school. This not only affects their integration into school and community but also their future career development and confidence in learning. After-school tutorial classes could be very helpful for their social mobility.
VI. Ethnic Minority Care Team
Our Ethnic Minority Care Team is established to provide dedicated caring services to ethnic minorities in the New Territories East, including Sai Kung, Tai Po, and North. A social worker will lead the team, supported by two ethnic minority programme workers. We will recruit 10 volunteers to assist the team. Through networks in local and ethnic minority communities, as well as referrals from District Services and the Community Care Team, we will actively engage with ethnic minorities to provide appropriate support.
VII. Value-added Programmes
We will offer additional value-added programmes that enhance the primary services provided. These may include vocational training workshops, mentorship programmes, and health and wellness initiatives. By addressing various aspects of life, we aim to empower ethnic minorities with skills and resources that promote independence and community engagement.
